Winter in the North
You can take the girl out of the North but you can’t take the glorious Canadian winter out of this girl. Sledding in the dark after school because the daylight hours are so short. Skiing on the weekends through the so-quiet, printer-paper-white woods. Skating with my sisters and stopping for hot cocoa as our toes froze inside multiple layers of socks. Even the later memories of early mornings unplugging the block heater on the car engine, nose hairs and eyelashes frosting over, scraping windows and willing the car to start and make it to work. And of course, the hibernation indoors after the cold. All good. And I miss it terribly.
This collection of collections is my homage to the home in my heart, the place that gets me teary, the place that made me resilient because the landscape demanded it.
The first of these collections is an adult, festive hibernation celebration, a bright palette of Mulled Wine, Crisp Pear, and Stinky Cheese in honour of my dearest Canadian friends who will never say no a nice cheese or a glass of wine.
The second collection is a fun, illustrative take on Cardinals, Birch trees, and an impossible Snow Blue Sky.
The third collection is inspired by a photo from my friend Diane. A Cool Fox pauses on her porch on a calm, cold Jack Frost morning, the colours of the photo reminiscent of Alpenglow.
Realistically proportioned, Festive is a mini serving of Stinky Cheese, a bigger serving of Winter Pear, and a full bottle of Mulled Wine!
Each set includes 100g of Mulled Wine, 50g of Winter Pear, and 25g of Stinky Cheese.

I am personally infatuated with this lace version of Mulled Wine. Like its DK siblings, it’s a deep, glazed tonal with so much depth and dimension.

Complementing Birch and Cardinal is a backdop of bright blue sky with gently falling snow. This soft blue yarn has regular spots of white that will give a subtle reverse speckling effect when worked into fabric.

Carefully colour adjusted to a bright white with icy blue highlights, Jack Frost is a soft, fluffy skein of fresh snowy goodness. The photo with a white ball compares the original undyed yarn on the right. Jack Frost pairs well with its counterpart, Alpenglow.

The Birch tree is iconic in every season but it’s especially glorious blended into a snowy winter, its black lines sometimes the only thing delineating it from the landscape. Birch is dyed with varying widths of black stripes, speckles, and colour adjusted to have a white background.

Illustrated is a pretty, poppy mix of Cardinal, Snow Blue Sky, and Birch on so-soft merino top. The colours are identical but naturally look more vibrant before spinning.
