Artists Series
Oscar Wilde argued that “life imitates art more often than art imitates life”, that we see in and adopt from art ways to live, behave, and present ourselves.
The first artist in this series, Claude Monet, might have been more in the “art imitates life” camp. His gardens were certainly stunning and, no doubt, as artistic in person as on canvas.
Argenteuil is my fiber tribute to Monet’s paintings of his family garden in Paris. Though less numerous than his Giverny paintings, they are no less stunning. The bright red and yellow roses and dahlias dominate the foreground but there’s a wealth of other colours too. Greens, oranges, browns, a white house with green shutters, and a cloud-filled periwinkle sky.

Lily Pond is the fiber homage to Monet’s Water Lily Pond paintings at his garden at Giverny. tried to capture the flow of those vibrant blues, the many greens, and the reds he used as both reflection and shadow.

Monet’s more famous garden in the Normandy region of Northern France, was a cacophany of colour. He painted Giverny as many as 300 times! His pathway paintings are especially lovely with the dense rows of purple irises lining the path. I think I would paint my days away there too! This fiber homage to Monet’s pathway will have to do for me.

Compared with his other, more famed gardens, Monet painted his family’s beautiful garden at Argenteuil, Paris, only a handful of times. It is no less beautiful, in my opinoin. The bright red dahlias and yellow roses dominate the paintings but there’s a wealth of other colours too. Greens, oranges, browns, a white house with green shutters, and a cloud-filled periwinkle sky. This variegated offering is my homage to his garden and paintings at Argenteuil.
Please note how the different bases take up dye. The colours are bolder in the BFL/Silk blend. The first five yarn photos are Merino. The next photo with two skeins is BFL/Silk on the left, merino on the right. And the rest of the photos are BFL/Silk. Same colours. Same methods.
